Kids Love Quirky Science

I have always liked simple but unusual science tricks. Many of the quirky science tricks that I liked looked like magic tricks and that’s probably been the main attraction for me. I was able to entertain my friends and family and then explain the science behind the trick.

Over the years I have logged many science tricks into my mind so at various occasions, when I feel the time is right, I can mention a strange scientific phenomena, and then demonstrate it, maybe at a BBQ or around the dinner table.

Just recently, at my nephews 7th birthday party I had the kids and adults hanging silver spoons from their noses, it was hilarious, adults and kids joining in, the kids loved it and of course it’s a fun way to mention friction.

About 2 years ago I put together a complete one hour science show for children based on all the quirky phenomena that I have loved and collected over the years.

Not mixing chemicals or any dangerous acts but simple ideas that can easily be replicated by young children. The idea behind the show was that the children can show the magic tricks to their parents and then explain the science.

It is a big confidence booster for the children because they know something that most adults do not, the child becomes the teacher and that is a very positive thing for a youngster.

Kids learn best when they are having fun and they can remember facts easier when it is related to an explanation that they understand.

Some of the positive effects that science can have on children is that it teaches children communication skills, communicating with each others and also in explaining the science trick to other people, its a confidence builder.

Science also teaches patience and perseverance, not all tricks work first time, every
Time, so the kids have to slow down and take things step by step to get a good results
And the more practice you do the more skilled you become at doing the science magic trick.

There is always the chance that the science will spark an interest in the child and they may go on to discover many new scientific applications. You know the saying “from little things, big things grow”

My science show teaches a healthy dose of scepticism. I tell the kids I am using magic powers to achieve the results and once I have them thinking I may be telling the truth, I reveal the science that makes the trick work, its cool, you can almost see the lights coming on inside the kids heads.

And lastly science teaches children about the world around them, why things work, why things operate and act in certain ways, helping to create an inquisitive mind

Well I hope to see you or your children at one of my science magic shows either at a private party or school event.

My contact details are listed and if you live in Brisbane Australia feel free to contact me about hosting my show at your child’s school or community event.
