Major Time Wasters
By Stephen Spry : Filed under Managing
Once you’ve identified the five biggest time wasters, you are well on your way to developing tactics to eliminate them from your work….
A study of 900 managers in nine countries revealed 5 major activities which wasted this precious resource. They were:
- Telephone interruptions
- Meetings
- Unexpected visitors
- Poor delegation
- Unexpected Crises
Already it is obvious that the first three are common timewasters.
The others, not as common, but still can cause hassles. In fact it is not uncommon for me, in a meeting with my clients, to experience all of these [and more] in the space of just five minutes!
Frustration is a common outcome as you struggle to ask the solitary question you really need an answer to, and it takes half an hour or more to do it! What a waste of your precious time!
So let’s look a little more closely at these time wasters, and see if there are strategies for dealing with them.
